On a sunny June Saturday, Founding Farmers Co. Catering & Events had the honor of catering Lizzy & Nate's wedding at Rocklands Farm Winery in Poolesville, Maryland — a historic 34-acre farm tucked into Montgomery County's Agricultural Reserve, just 20 miles from Washington, DC. With a ceremony on the Stone House Lawn, golden-hour cocktails among the gardens, and a scratch-made dinner served as the sun set over the vineyard, it was the kind of celebration we love most: warm, personal, and full of good food shared with the people who matter.

A Farmer-Owned Caterer on a Working Farm
As a mission-driven company majority owned by American family farmers, we felt right at home. When a farmer-owned catering company sets the table on a working farm, everything about the evening feels connected — the land, the food, and the people gathered to celebrate.
Rocklands Farm Winery is a working farm and winery, and that spirit shaped the entire evening. Rocklands provided their own estate-grown wines for the celebration — poured by our team as welcome wine the moment guests arrived — while our culinary and events teams brought the scratch-made food, handcrafted cocktails from our DC distillery, Founding Spirits, and the full service hospitality that let this happy couple enjoy their friends, family, and wedding celebration.

Cocktail Hour: A Farm-Inspired Grazing Station
Following the ceremony, guests gathered for cocktail hour with Roasted Tomato Tarts, Brie Apple & Onion Farm Bread, and refreshing Cucumber Cups — served in eco-friendly bamboo serving boats. Guests also gathered around an abundant and vibrant spread blending favorites from our Harvest, Mediterranean, and Cheese & Charcuterie boards into one beautiful, farm-inspired table:
Cheese & Charcuterie — assorted meats, Glazed Bacon Lollis, artisanal cheeses, olives, crackers, nuts, and dried & fresh fruits
Mediterranean — beet hummus, classic hummus, baba ghanoush, marinated olives, cucumbers, fresh pita & pita chips
Farmers Garden — seasonal crudité with beet hummus, onion dip, and buttermilk herb dip
A refreshing, infused water station with blackberry, orange & ginger kept guests cool through a warm June evening.

The Dinner: Scratch-Made, Served Buffet Style
Dinner unfolded buffet style — a relaxed and generous meal that fit the farm setting perfectly. Every dish was scratch-made, starting with our bread: potato rolls, ciabatta, and cornbread, all served with North Dakota whipped honey butter — a nod to the family farmers who own our company.
Farmers Salad — mixed lettuce, dates, tomato, grapes, almonds, parmesan, and olives with champagne & sherry vinaigrettes
Honey Thyme Roasted Chicken
Roasted Side of Salmon with lemon & dill butter drizzle
Herb Roasted Baby Potatoes
Seven Cheese Mac & Cheese
Braised Heirloom Carrots with citrus glaze
Sautéed Green Beans with herb butter

The Bar: Founding Spirits Meets Rocklands Wine
The evening's bar was a true collaboration. Rocklands Farm Winery provided their own low-intervention Maryland wines, while our bar team handcrafted cocktails made exclusively with Founding Spirits — our Vodka, Dry Gin, Bourbon, and Rye, alongside Agave Blanco Spirit and Rum — from our distillery on Massachusetts Avenue in DC.
The signature cocktail of the night: the FS Mule — Founding Spirits Vodka, lime, ginger, and mint — a bright, refreshing choice for a summer farm wedding. A curated selection of local beers, including Ponzi IPA, Naptown Lager, and Dance of Days Pale Ale, rounded out the offerings.
Full Service Wedding Catering, From First Toast to Last Dance
From the ceremony through cake cutting, our team handled all the details — buffet service, beverage stations, bar service, and the behind-the-scenes coordination that keeps a wedding timeline moving without anyone noticing. That's what full service catering means to us: Lizzy, Nate, and their guests got to be fully present, and we took care of the rest.
